Yes, and the lovely Royal finds that the course of true love runs forcefully, wildly and, oh so romantically through the prose of Nichel Anderson's love story set in ancient Egypt. Actually, that is "Ancient" with a capital "A," as the action takes place in the book's namesake land, Mitsrayim, a mystical kingdom on the Nile that existed prior to the familiar Egypt of the Pharaohs.

In fact, the book is based on the author's actual memories of a past life in that ancient land. Thus, Ms. Anderson considers the book a "memoir" rather than a work of fiction.

Briefly, a Nubian woman, Princess Aamina inherits the territory of Mitsrayim when she turns 19. She is betrothed to her childhood friend, King Dudah, ruler of the lower Sudan. However, King Daniy’el, returns to his throne on the planet Tiamat, the long-forgotten name of Earth. Daniy’el soon makes known his desire also for Princess Aamina.

Both kings are Annunaqui brothers but want Princess Aamina for different reasons. Dudah is trying to pay off debts to extraterrestrial beings, the Reptilians, from the constellation, Orion. He promises the Reptilians that with the wealth and lands that will come with his marriage to the princess, they will get what he owes them.

However, King Daniy’el wants Princess Aamina because his heart and soul demands her to be his. Though Aamina and Daniy"el have loved each other through many lifetimes, it is not clear if they will actually be with each other in this lifetime.

Plots and counterplots reveal forbidden secrets and the treachery of a close friend. The course of true love does not run smooth, and the plot entails battles both physical and spiritual.

Ms. Anderson has a simple but lush way with words. I love passages such as this one from the introductory material:

< A cloud full of plumpness and depth winked at me. I listened to the wind. It flew up and around me with urgency. The sheer lining of the wind’s movements perked up the hairs on my arm. I continued to listen and wait. The wind hollered at me to take caution and listen to some of those voices, for they might be harsh but wise to lead me to safer ground.

Even though the story is familiar to the new age style, Ms. Anderson developed her spiritual themes from her belief in reincarnation and many encounters with the luminous. She tells us in the introduction:

My belief is simple. I strongly feel that there are other life forms out in the many, many universes that the prime creator created for life forms to live on and embark on a journey leading back to the prime creator. My belief in reincarnation leads me to write my memoir of a past life in Mitsrayim. I feel that I was here before and that my fellow spiritual friends are always nearby.

Mitsrayim enthralls the reader with spiritual themes and exotic settings. Ms. Anderson is one of the best writers that I have read at marrying the characters to the action. The result is a seamless journey into a fascinating land filled with romantic characters aware of their connections through time and space, who have learned that recognizing the presence of spirit and the spiritual love that happens between sincere beings is all that really matters ultimately.

I highly recommend Nichel Anderson's thrilling memoir of a past life which is to be published during Christmas 2004. Her dramatic style and flair for plot remind me of the late Taylor Caldwell, the best-selling Anglo-American author, some of whose works touched on memories of past lives and spiritual themes, such as Romance in Atlantis.
